The Yucca Valley Town Council was informed at its meeting Tuesday night that the new sidewalks in Town are compliant with all regulations required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Sidewalks need to be a minimum of 32 inches wide, and the sidewalks are a minimum of 43 inches wide. Photos were shown to the Town Council to show that even in areas where trees and poles job out into the sidewalk, wheelchairs can still get by.
Paul Jefferis The sidewalks are a good idea, but i don't like those damn medians that were put in.
April 16, 2014 at 9:09 AM8
Michael Stiles I'm glad we can put illegal immigrants to work too..
April 16, 2014 at 9:15 AM2
Tracey Winslow Nolte The side walk are a good idea. They look terrible though.
April 16, 2014 at 9:47 AM
Hank Garvin I wonder how long until Caltrans says we need 6 lanes through town and we have to remove the medians?
April 16, 2014 at 9:53 AM1
Elizabeth Fowler Oh, yeah good job Yucca! Let's put in some sidewalks we can't afford to build OR maintain. What's that? We need a sewer? Oh... pfft... who needs a waste treatment plant when you have awesome medians and sidewalks! YOLO!
April 16, 2014 at 10:00 AM2
Rusty Mon Be sure to NOT put the sewer lines in first, before re-doing the sidewalks...
April 16, 2014 at 10:12 AM
Judith Lynn Laffoon Quit yer bitchin'. Be thankful that citizens and visitors will have a SAFE place to walk/wheel along Hwy 62, and especially those who use wheelchairs and scooters.
April 16, 2014 at 10:17 AM12
Amber Lewis Yea that's gunna suck when they do decide to put a sewer in cause all this money they just spent want down the shitter..way to go yucca got some geniuses in counsel
April 16, 2014 at 11:25 AM2
Tracy Stockman From what I recall the sidewalks are being paid for by grant money specifically for safe walking. We have a lot of residents that walk in this town; kids, people who don't have cars, and disabled people using motorized wheelchairs. I think the sidewalks are a good thing for our community.
April 16, 2014 at 11:51 AM7
Jeff Drozd also if you check out the hi desert Water District website and if you look at the map of the sewers the sewers are not on the highway there on the back roads next to the highway there are only a couple places where the sewer lines cross the highway nothing has to be tore up
April 16, 2014 at 12:05 PM7
Keith Board Disabled people have nothing better to do than bitch about everything, Just be thankful for what you have or can still do. What gets me is being at Disneyland alot, i see and hear tons of complains from "disabled people", FIrst off what the heck are they doing at Disneyland You can not or shouldnt be riding anything there except a very few rides. but they complain about the really awesome "E" ticket rides that you can only go on if your healthy. Remember your DISABLED ! And the rides were not made for you! Its NOT any amusement parks fault you are fiscally unable to ride something that was meant for most people, You cant accommodate or make everyone happy no matter what someone will complain!
April 16, 2014 at 12:48 PM
Shari Dillon I saw a couple of areas where a hydrant or pole was in the middle of the sidewalk and the new sidewalk didn't leave enough space for a wheelchair to go around it.
April 16, 2014 at 1:04 PM1
Jeff Drozd Shari they measured and its ALL passable....
April 16, 2014 at 1:08 PM2
Herb Orban You would think that they were made of gold for as long as it is taking them to complete this relatively minor project. Why so many cones on the highway all the time making our Yucca Valley traffic back-ups a real joke?
April 16, 2014 at 2:13 PM2
Jennifer Rose Ali Ok I'm not being mean for what I'm going to say but It's not just disabled people that bitch about everything everybody bitches about everything. Everybody's different & has their different reasons to bitch some of the stuff is ridiculous & pointless of bitching about it because it's not going to change no matter how much they bitch. I'm disabled but not much of a person to bitch about little things, it also depends on what caused them to be disabled they were either born with it or something caused their disability. Sorry to say but some people are bitching about disabled people bitching so you see everybody's bitching about something. As they say life's a bitch! :D
April 16, 2014 at 2:39 PM6
Shari Dillon I have spent time in wheelchairs, walkers, mobility chairs and thank God I am usually able to walk. But there are people that do not have that luxury of walking and until you have spent some time where your only way of getting around is on wheels then you have have no idea what these people endure on a daily basis with difficulty getting around. And for your comment Mr.Board....Karma is an evil bitch and you may find yourself in need of a mobility device and I can promise you would "complain" too. Don't comment on something you only think you understand.
April 16, 2014 at 2:47 PM6
Jeff Drozd Accept what you cant do and excel at what you can do......
April 16, 2014 at 7:37 PM
Colleen Scannel Coleman How dare any of you decide what anyone can or should be able to do at Disneyland or Yucca. Shame on small judgemental minds
April 16, 2014 at 8:45 PM2
Colleen Scannel Coleman Never accept what others want to limit you to. If Jeff wants to limit himself thats fine, but dont you dare assume others should do the same
April 16, 2014 at 8:47 PM
Jeff Drozd Wow Colleen you just twisted what I said..... incredible....
April 16, 2014 at 8:48 PM
Colleen Scannel Coleman I took your words to mean you think people who have disabilities should just accept them and not "inconvenience" able bodied people
April 16, 2014 at 8:51 PM1
Jeff Drozd What the???....... Im disabled why would I think that.....
April 16, 2014 at 8:52 PM
Colleen Scannel Coleman I dont know, why would you say it
April 16, 2014 at 8:52 PM
Jeff Drozd but yes sometimes we should think of others... the good of the whole vs ourselves.......
April 16, 2014 at 8:52 PM1
Jaqui Phillips Cabanlit This will be a more convenient thing for those who have baby strollers too....and more safe as well.
